Car Buying Tips

When you go to the car dealership remember that the salesman knows how to sell a car a lot better then you know how to buy it. The smartest thing to do is to NOT buy the car on the same day. This is what salesman want you to do. They will tell you that you are getting the best deal ONLY on that day - that is not true, price can always be lowered. Get your best deal and LEAVE, then come back in a few days (but do not wait too long). Never give false information, show that you are serious and interested in purchasing a vehicle.

The best time to buy a car is one week before the end of the month, or a big holiday such as New Year, because most dealerships have to sell a particular number of cars. They also have a floor plan, which means cars cannot be on the "floor" for too long. Usually these cars are inside the showroom. They are called demo cars.

When buying a car, thinking about buying one, or just shopping around, show the salesman that you are ready to buy a car this second. By doing this you are telling him that you are a serious buyer and you did not come to waste time, you are there to do business. They will take you seriously and you will get the best numbers. Never say that you are just shopping around. By doing so you will are not going to get a good price: most of dealers will"low ball" the customer. They will give you fake low numbers so you will come back after going somewhere else. Still, do not buy right away, go somewhere else.

It's always good to find out some information about the car. Spend a few minutes and check out Consumer Reports site on the vehicle that you are about to purchase.

Get a copy of everything you sign, at the time you sign it, and do not sign anything that has not been filled out (sales contract, warranty or service agreement, credit life/accident insurance, odometer statement, title, repair receipts, etc.). If there is a dispute later, these documents can be of assistance in resolving the dispute.

You have to be willing to take a walk especially when the dealer tells you to take it or leave it. you can always come back tomorrow. chances are they really won't let you walk..

When buying a new car, NEVER start at sticker price and work your way down, always start $300-400 below invoice and work your way up from there in $50.00 increments, because even if a dealer sells you a new car at "cost" they are still making 3-5 % in what they call "hold back" money from the factory, they will of course deny this fact, but it is a fact.
